How our pricing compares to the market
Published rates for comparable seven-day Mongolia taimen programs run roughly $7,900–$8,550 per angler per week. Trophy Taimen prices above that band — $10,500, and $12,000 for the trophy window — because the expedition is built to a different standard: fewer rods on the water, a camp that moves ahead of you down the river, chef-cooked meals, Starlink connectivity, and professional photography of every trip included rather than sold as extras.
When cost decisions need to be made
Mongolia’s taimen season runs June through October, with September–October as the trophy window. Most anglers book nine to eighteen months ahead, and the permit allocation for a season is fixed — when the thirty rods of our September season are taken, no amount of budget adds a thirty-first. If the dates you want are sold out, joining the waitlist costs nothing.
The permit is part of the price
Taimen fishing in Mongolia is legal only with a permit, on designated rivers, with catch-and-release, single barbless hooks. Your permit — roughly $500 of the trip price — is included and arranged by us. A meaningful share of permit revenue funds river protection in the Onon watershed, which is what keeps this fishery worth traveling for.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a payment due at booking?
No payment is due with your request. Once your dates and permit allocation are confirmed, a $2,500 deposit secures your rod. The balance is due before the season, and we hold your place for 72 hours while permits are confirmed.
Why do taimen trips cost more than most fishing trips?
Supply is legally capped. Mongolia permits foreign taimen angling on only four river systems, allocates permits to a small number of licensed operators, and the Onon program is limited to roughly one hundred anglers per year. You are paying for one of very few legal seats on protected water, plus a fully outfitted remote camp.
What is not included in the price?
International flights to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolian visa costs where applicable, personal fly-fishing gear, travel and medical-evacuation insurance, and gratuities for the guide and camp team.
Are there discounts for booking a full week?
A private full-week booking (4 or more rods) is quoted individually — contact us through the booking page and we will price your group directly.
